Although cashew paste (cashew nut butter) is quite famous, few people probably know that cashew is a close relative of mango, while what we call cashew nut is actually the seed of a drupe (i.e. a fruit with the same structure as plum or apricot).
The actual cashew fruit has two parts: it consists of a drupe covered with an outer, fleshy covering called the cashew apple. The strangest thing, however, is that this "apple" has... a pear-shaped shape!
