Although cashew butter (colloquially cashew nut butter) is quite well-known, probably not many people know that the cashew is a close relative of the mango, while what we call a cashew nut is actually the seed of a drupe (i.e., a fruit with a structure similar to a plum or apricot).
The actual cashew fruit is two-part: it consists of a drupe covered by an outer, fleshy casing called the cashew apple. The strangest thing, however, is that this "apple" is... pear-shaped!
