Cold-pressed milk thistle oil (BIO) 500ml
We press milk thistle oil from the Silma variety – a Polish variety bred for its high silymarin content in the seed. The oil is cold-pressed using a screw press, at a temperature below 38°C. The oil is unrefined, thanks to which it retains its natural herbal character and color.
What does milk thistle oil taste like?
Our organic milk thistle oil has a distinct, herbal aroma and taste. It is slightly bitter oil, with a grassy note in the background. It is closer to black seed oil than to olive oil. If you are trying it for the first time, start with a small amount and see how it combines with your favorite dishes. The oil is intense due to the lack of refining.
Culinary use - salads, sauces, and cold dishes
Milk thistle oil should be used cold. It will be perfect for salads or sauces. It works great in those with a distinct profile, where bitterness combines well with the ingredients. It works in vinaigrette, with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. It is often used for homemade hummus, in vegetable spreads and cottage cheese. You can also drizzle it over roasted vegetables, fresh bread, groats, or cream soup. Remember to do this after removing the pot from the burner. Milk thistle oil can also be consumed directly from a spoon.
Why should you not fry with milk thistle oil?
Unrefined, cold-pressed milk thistle oil has a low smoke point. It is most valuable when it does not come into contact with high temperatures. Heating it negates the purpose of cold pressing and worsens its taste. For frying and baking, it is better to reach for another fat intended for this purpose. Milk thistle oil is best left for cold and lukewarm dishes.
Polish milk thistle variety from organic farming
The Silma variety was bred at the Institute of Natural Fibres and Medicinal Plants in Poznań. Seeds of the Silma variety contain particularly high amounts of silybin, the main component of silymarin. This distinguishes high-quality Polish raw material from cheaper varieties imported from Southern and Eastern Europe. The raw material determines the oil's aroma, color, and intensity. For the production of our oils, we use only the highest quality fresh seeds, sourced from Polish organic farms, covered by the PL-EKO-03 certificate. Freshness is of great importance here, which is why we produce our oils continuously to maintain high quality.
Cold pressing below 38°C
We press milk thistle oil using a screw press, ensuring that the temperature does not exceed 38°C. This is the limit that allows the oil to retain all its valuable properties. The finished oil is completely natural; we do not remove anything that gives it its taste and smell.
How to store milk thistle oil after opening?
Keep the bottle tightly closed, in a cool and dark place, away from the stove and direct light. After opening, the oil can be stored in the refrigerator. The oil should be used within a reasonable time (2-3 months after opening). Unrefined oils are more sensitive to oxygen, light, and heat. A natural sediment may appear in cold-pressed oils; this is a completely normal phenomenon that does not affect the quality of the product.
