Hemp is a plant valued for centuries for its health-promoting properties. Today, however, products made from it are overshadowed by the widespread media debate about cannabis – a completely different plant. Why is it worth incorporating hemp into your diet and which products are worth choosing? Let's find out!
Hemp oil
Hemp oil is characterized by a typically nutty flavor with a pleasant aroma. It is known for its exceptionally high content of unsaturated fatty acids, which are beneficial to the human body. These include oleic, linoleic, and linolenic acids, which are the best source of fat for humans. Furthermore, oil made from hemp is cholesterol-free, making it suitable for those struggling with high cholesterol. Furthermore, it effectively supports cell metabolism and the immune system, while also having antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. What else is in hemp oil? The abundance of vitamin K in hemp oil contributes to proper blood clotting and the formation of strong and healthy bone tissue.
How can you use the oil?
It's suitable for practically everything. When preparing delicious and healthy dishes, adding a particular oil will only enhance their flavor, imparting an absolutely unique aroma. It can be used in salads and slaws, but also in dressings and sauces (the oil is not suitable for frying). The oil is available here!
Hemp seeds – why are they worth eating?
Available in hulled or unhulled form, they make a great addition to muesli or salads. Just sprinkle a few tablespoons of the seeds over your salad to significantly enhance its nutritional value and add a unique flavor. What's so special about these seeds? It turns out that hemp seeds are an incredibly rich source of protein (11g in just 3 tablespoons). They also contain all the essential minerals and vitamins. They include calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, and vitamins A, D, E, and K.
Hemp flour? Why not!
Flour made from hemp seeds is incredibly nutritious – it contains the same nutrients as the seeds discussed above. It's also incredibly rich in fiber – as much as 42g per 100g of flour.
It's perfect for baking and cooking. It's worth adding it to traditional flour (it's best to replace 10-15% of regular flour with hemp flour). It can be used not only for baking cakes, cookies, muffins, and pancakes, but also as a wonderful thickener and adds a slightly nutty flavor to sauces, smoothies, yogurts, oatmeal, and breadings.
Hemp is a source of many nutrients and substances that regulate our body's functions. It's worth including it in your diet. However, remember to buy it from reputable stores and labeled organic – this way you can be sure you're purchasing a top-quality product.
