How to make dried fruit compote?
A classic of the Polish Christmas Eve table that tastes best when made a day ahead.
You will need:
- 150 g prunes
- 50 g raisins
- 2 l water*
- 1 apple*
- 3 cloves and a pinch of cinnamon*
- honey to taste*
*these ingredients are not included in the set. You will find cloves and cinnamon in our Winter Spice Set.
Preparation: Rinse the prunes and raisins, cover them with water in a pot and leave for an hour. Add the chopped apple and spices, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes. Leave to cool, ideally for a few hours, so the compote develops its flavor. Sweeten with honey to taste.
The prunes in the set are enough for three pots of compote, and you can use the rest of the dried fruit and nuts in cakes and on the holiday table.
Where else to use them?
- Dates stuffed with almonds – remove the pit and put an almond in its place. A quick snack for the holiday table.
- Poppy seed cake, fruitcake and gingerbread – raisins and chopped almonds for the filling and dough.
- Sauce for roasts – a few prunes add depth and a light sweetness.
- Oatmeal – for every day, once the holidays are over.
