How to make a ginger shot? 4 recipes for the whole autumn and winter

Jak zrobić shot imbirowy? 4 przepisy na całą jesień i zimę

It's getting colder outside, it's dark in the morning, and getting out of bed feels like negotiating with yourself. We know the feeling all too well! That’s why we decided to take matters into our own hands. Michał had been wanting to try ginger shots for a long time, but didn’t know where to start. Luckily, we have Monia on the team, who has been drinking them for years and has her own tried-and-tested recipes. She prepared four of her favorites. You can find all the recipes below, along with an honest review.

How to start your ginger shot adventure?

With a good base. Each of Monia's four shots tastes different, but they are all made from the same two ingredients: organic ginger juice and organic lemon juice. This makes things much easier, as there is no need to peel the root, grate it, or squeeze it through cheesecloth. You just measure out a few milliliters, add the rest of the ingredients to a shot glass, and in a minute, your shot is ready.

It is worth shaking both juices well before use. Ginger juice naturally separates because starch and small particles of the root settle at the bottom. There is nothing to worry about; it is completely normal and reversible, and it is also the best proof that there is simply pressed ginger in the bottle, without any clarifying agents.

The immunity shot, or the favorite of the cold season

To start, something Monia reaches for most often when everyone around is sneezing and sniffing. For centuries, ginger has been associated with a warming effect and increased immunity on cold days. When combined with citrus, honey, and turmeric, it makes for a very pleasant morning routine.

You will need:

  • 20 ml ginger juice
  • 10 ml lemon juice
  • 10 ml fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • a pinch of turmeric
  • a touch of black pepper

Michał looked at this shot glass with great distrust and expected it to be spicy. After drinking it, it turned out he was wrong. Honey perfectly softens the spiciness of the ginger, turmeric adds depth, and the whole thing is surprisingly balanced. As he said himself, it is simply a good shot.

A shot for a good start to the day and more energy in the morning

If you fear winter mornings when it is still dark outside and the only thought in your head is "just 5 more minutes...", you must check out this recipe. This shot is meant to be a quick energy boost that helps you wake up and get going.

You will need:

  • 20 ml ginger juice
  • 10 ml lemon juice
  • 10 ml orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • ½ teaspoon of turmeric

There is definitely more turmeric here. Michał was bracing himself for a real shock and chills down his spine. In the meantime, it turned out again that honey does the trick and the shot is milder than it looks. It is not overwhelming, but it effectively wakes you up and provides energy for the rest of the morning. For those who prefer a gradual awakening over a cold shower, this is a bullseye.

A refreshing shot for fans of sour flavors

The only recipe in the set without turmeric and with less honey. Instead of spicy notes, you get a citrus boost. It works well for an afternoon slump or whenever you need to refresh your mind quickly.

You will need:

  • 20 ml ginger juice
  • 10 ml lemon juice
  • 10 ml apple juice
  • 5 ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ teaspoon of honey

Apple and lime make this shot noticeably sour and crisp. Michał admitted that it does indeed wake you up, although he was hoping for something more intense. If you like sour flavors, it is possible that this will become your favorite recipe.

A warming shot for frosty days

Monia saved this one for last, and it’s no wonder. It is a suggestion for days when you return from a cold walk with a red nose and want to warm up from the inside.

You will need:

  • 20 ml ginger juice
  • 10 ml lemon juice
  • 10 ml orange juice
  • ½ teaspoon of honey
  • a pinch of turmeric
  • a touch of chili

The base is similar to the immunity shot, but pepper is replaced here by chili. The heat is noticeable, and the warmth spreads throughout the entire body. Although Michał expected a prank from Monia, he decided it could be drunk without any major problems.

Which shot did Michał like the most?

After four shots in a row, Michał was able to create a ranking. The immunity shot won hands down, receiving a score of 10 out of 10 from him, and he recommends it to everyone, especially to start. The shot for a good start to the day took second place with a score of 8 out of 10 because, according to Michał, it really does its job. The warming shot took third place. The refreshing shot landed in 4th place, mainly because Michał expected a stronger kick from it. However, tastes vary, so it is best to test all four and create your own ranking.

How to incorporate shots into your daily routine?

Monia drinks her shots regularly and has a simple way to do it. She prepares them in advance and pours them into small containers. In the morning, all you have to do is open the fridge and grab one. You can prepare your favorite blend for three days in advance. This makes it easier to form a habit, and a daily portion of ginger is a simple way to get more energy and feel better on gloomy mornings.

Michał also shared his discovery. One day he forgot to take his salad dressing to work, so he simply drizzled the salad with ginger juice. The salad became exceptionally refreshing. The juice also works great in dressings, marinades, and Asian cuisine, and the ginger also supports digestion and helps with the feeling of heaviness after a heavy meal.

What to watch out for when drinking ginger shots?

For most people, ginger is completely safe, but people with reflux or peptic ulcer disease, those taking anticoagulants, and pregnant women should exercise caution. If you have any doubts or plan to drink the shots every day for a long time, it is worth talking to a doctor about it. You can read more about the properties of ginger in our post What does ginger juice help with? Properties, uses, and how to drink it.

And what is your recipe for the perfect shot?

We are thinking about a second episode, this time with recipes from you. Write in the comments under the video what your favorite ginger shot looks like, and who knows, maybe it will be the one that ends up being tested by Michał. Also, let us know if you like lime, because we are wondering whether or not to add lime juice to our offer.

If you want to stock up for the winter, ginger juice, lemon juice, as well as pepper, chili, turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon, and cloves for tea can be found on ekogram.pl. Cheers!
