Lentils, due to their valuable nutritional properties, are an invaluable product, used by many in the daily diet. There are several varieties of it - incl. red and green. So, which lentils should you choose? Are there any differences other than color? We explain what the properties of both types of lentils are and what makes them different.

Properties and use of red lentils

Red lentils included in your daily diet provide your body with a regular dose of antioxidants and vitamins. It has health-promoting properties - supports the treatment of arterial hypertension. By providing a portion of protein and fiber, it has a positive effect on the digestive system, while satisfying the feeling of hunger for a long time. Red lentils are an excellent product for diabetics due to their low glycemic index. In addition, it is more easily digestible than other varieties, and all its properties are easily absorbed by our body.

In terms of preparation, it is definitely distinguished by the ease and short time of the entire process. It is enough to rinse the lentil grains several times under water and cook for about 15 minutes. It becomes soft very quickly, so you can successfully use it to prepare soups, creams or sauces.

Green lentils - what for and what for?

Like red and green lentils, they are rich in vitamins and minerals , and its regular consumption supports the proper functioning of the body. In addition, it strengthens the circulatory system, it is a great product when fighting anemia. However, this variety is more filling, so it can be successfully used as a meat substitute in a vegetarian diet. It allows you to forget about the feeling of hunger for a long time and will be perfect for weight loss.

Preparing green lentils requires a bit more patience. To obtain the desired softness, after rinsing it under water, boil it for about 45 minutes. After this time, however, it remains flowable, so you can use it as a stuffing or addition to meat. It is also distinguished by a characteristic, delicate taste.

Which lentils are better?

Both red and green lentils effectively improve your well-being by providing the body with valuable nutrients. The main difference is the time it takes to cook it. Usually, its use is also different, but if you want to make red lentil stuffing - please! Additionally - although the differences are minimal - red lentils provide more protein and less fats and carbohydrates than green lentils.
