What is rooibos tea?

The name rooibos is a combination of two words from the africaans language: rooi, meaning red, and bos, meaning shrub. The shrub, from which the tea takes its name, grows in the South African Cederberg Mountains, a place of so great beauty that its natural qualities have been appreciated and entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The botanical name of this plant is aspalate, but it is more widely known as rooibos. Its leaves, dried in the sun - and fermented if necessary - and then cut into small, millimeter-sized pieces, are the raw material from which rooibos tea is made. The fermentation process makes the leaves a rusty red color.

Why use organic rooibos tea?

The red bush, from the leaves of which the tea offered in our store was made, grows in natural conditions on the slopes of the Cederberg Mountains. Plants therefore require neither fertilization nor chemical protection against pests and diseases. They provide a healthy, ecological and wholesome raw material.
