In the first episode of our Wednesday cycle, we will bring the subject of water and hydration closer, because it is a substance necessary for the proper functioning of the body.
Our body consists of water in approx. 85%:
water is a component of blood and lymph, and is therefore essential for nourishing the cells in our body
it is necessary to maintain proper hydration of the mucous membrane, which protects the the walls of the digestive tract - only when properly hydrated the digestive and absorption processes will proceed properly
is necessary in the process of thermoregulation
provides us with bicarbonates - buffers to maintain the constant pH of blood and urine
it is necessary for the kidneys to filter and excrete unnecessary metabolic products
Sounds like there was no life without water? That's how it is, and yet many of us neglect the issue of proper hydration. Every day, through the skin, urine, feces, exhaled air, we lose about 2l of water - this amount obviously increases when the ambient temperature rises, our physical activity increases or in some physiological states. To balance the balance, we must provide it. Part will provide us with food, but the basis will of course be drinking - preferably water - not coffee, tea. Here are some practical tips that we can use to ensure proper hydration:
drink about 1.5-2l of water a day, increase the supply during hot weather or when you are in heavily heated rooms and when you increase physical activity
adults should drink mineral water, i.e. one that contains 1000 - 2000 mg of minerals in 1 liter - a good strategy is to rotate medium and highly mineralized waters
for infants and young children, spring water, i.e. a low degree of mineralization, not exceeding 500 mg / l, will be adequate
addition of a little salt to the water will improve its irrigation properties - it will be great here Himalayan or Kłodinska salt, which will provide an additional portion of minerals - this treatment should be used in the morning, just after waking up, when we need to replenish lost water during sleep
before the first meal, lemon juice is also worth adding to stimulate gastric juices that provide us with a good digestion or if we suffer from hyperacidity, erosions or ulcers - aloe juice that supports the regeneration of the mucous membrane
drink in small portions, between meals and not during them - after a meal it is best to wait min. Thirty minutes;
have water always side by side, in sight - seeing it is easier to remember to drink - remember this also during long journeys
on this occasion, it is impossible not to mention the packaging: the best would be glass packaging, but it is known that they are heavy, and convenience is also an important aspect - remember, however, that PET bottles do not use repeatedly, do not leave in the car, or other places where it may overheat
when choosing a reusable bottle / drink bottle, choose from good quality plastic, without BPA - the car with a built-in tube works perfectly well, which solves the problem of unscrewing standard bottles.
Finally remember - when you feel a strong thirst, dehydration reaches probably 2-3%!
