At ekogram.pl you will find the best coconut ingredients that cannot be missing in your kitchen. Coconut is the basis of many Indian and Middle Eastern dishes. It is also an exotic addition to dishes prepared in our Polish homes. Milk, chips, flour, oil and coconut sugar have many different uses. They perfectly match savory dishes as well as those served sweet. In our assortment you can buy:

Refined or unrefined coconut oil?

It depends what you want to use it for in the kitchen. Extra virgin coconut oil , i.e. the unrefined one, guarantees the full taste and aroma of coconut in your dishes. It is obtained through the most natural method of cold pressing from the fruit of the coconut palm, thanks to which all the valuable health and taste qualities of coconut oil are preserved. Crude oil, however, can be prone to rancidity and has a lower smoke point of 177 degrees Celsius. However, this does not preclude the use of unrefined coconut oil for cooking or frying. It is one of the few unrefined oils that can be used in this way. However, it will work best as an ingredient in raw vegan cakes, creams for cakes, fruit smoothies, ice cream or spreads for sandwiches.

Refined coconut oil, in turn, has undergone refining, filtration and purification processes, which deprives it of the characteristic taste and smell of coconut and some nutrients. It is ideal for frying and baking at high temperatures, guaranteeing that the coconut flavor will not penetrate the dish. Its advantage, apart from neutrality in taste, is also the possibility of long storage, as it is not susceptible to spoilage.

Which coconut oil for frying?

As a universal fat for frying, refined coconut oil is the best choice, as it has a high smoke point , and its taste and smell are completely neutral, thanks to which the dishes do not taste like coconut. So you can fry anything you want on it. Pork chops, minced cutlets, croquettes, dumplings, seafood, vegetables and fruits . If, on the other hand, you want to get a slightly more exotic taste of your dish, choose unrefined extra virgin coconut oil with the characteristic taste and smell of a coconut palm nut. This oil is perfect as a base for Indian curry, oriental pancakes or sweet pancakes.

Coconut milk - which one to choose?

The best coconut milk is 100% natural . It does not contain any additional sweeteners, stabilizers, emulsifiers, artificial colors or synthetic flavors. In the composition of good quality coconut milk you will find only coconut extract and water , where the content of coconut extract should be at least 50-60% . Such coconut milk is perfect for coffee , as a base for thick curry sauces, a creamer for soups or an ingredient in cakes or vegan desserts . In turn, coconut milk with an extract content of 70-85% can successfully replace whipped cream for cakes.

How to make coconut milk at home?

Mix warm water with coconut paste in a blender and you will get coconut milk or coconut milk. Proportions are important.

Recipe

  • Coconut milk - proportion 5:2 (e.g. 50 g of water and 20 g of coconut paste)
  • Coconut milk - 5:1 ratio (e.g. 50 g of water and 10 g of coconut paste).

Coconut flour for baking - how to use?

Coconut flour obtained from dried and defatted coconut flesh can be an excellent substitute for wheat flour , also in a gluten-free diet . It works well as an ingredient in sweet and savory pastries . It is perfect for cakes, cookies, muffins, bread, pizza bases, pancakes, pancakes and omelettes . However, when using coconut flour for baking, its properties should be taken into account and the recipe should be modified accordingly. Coconut flour is very absorbent, so add more liquid to the dough. In addition, baking with coconut flour most often requires the addition of egg or flaxseed mixed with water, which can replace the egg in recipes for vegan cakes. Also know that you can never replace all-purpose flour with coconut flour in a 1:1 ratio. You can mix it with wheat or rye flour , and in gluten-free baking it is usually necessary to make a mixture of several gluten-free flours in order for the baking to be successful.
